Papal Mass Phoenix Park 26th Aug 2018
A good representation of parishioners from the parish of Blessington and neighbouring parishes of Hollywood and Valleymount assembled at 7.15am in the car park in preparation for the Papal Mass. This mass was also the culmination of 5 days marking the world meeting of Families . Despite some heavy showers , everybody's spirits were raised by the sight of so many buses converging in Ballyfermot from all corners of Ireland.
Some groups had even set out at 5am from Cork, as the crowds of people swelled en route to the Phoenix Park, the silence was punctuated by the sound of choirs and gospel groups performing live in the lead up to the Mass. The 5 hour wait went by very quickly as we were given performances by Daniel O Donnell and other groups. We also heard testimonies from a number of people on their journey in faith. The highlight of the Papal Mass was the tour of Pope Francis in the pope mobile. Everybody wanted that special glimpse of him and then suddenly he was there looking right at us that warm smile that seemed to beam straight down on you. With outstretched hands and the click of cameras this moment was captured in seconds.
"Pope Francis began Mass by asking forgiveness for the abuse of power conscience and sexual abuse in the church. In his homily we were told that in the precious moments when we are in communion with one another and with the world, it is good to consider the source of all the good things we have received. The words of Jesus with their promise of the gift of the Holy Spirit are teeming with life for us who accept them in faith.
The spirit of God constantly breathes new life into our hearts, our families. our homes and parishes. Each day in the life of our families and each new generation brings the promise of a new Pentecost. The Paraclete whom Jesus sends as our Advocate, our Consoler and indeed our Encourager. How much our world needs this encouragement! May each of you go back to your homes and become a source of encouragement to others, to share with them Jesus words of eternal life.
